PELLA TULIP FESTIVAL

April 29 - May 3 (5 d, 9 m)  $685

 

Day 1:  This morning depart on an easy ride to Des Moines, Iowa, where we will check into our hotel and have an included dinner tonight. (D)

 

Day 2:  We start the day with a guided tour of the many covered Bridges of Madison County.  We will eat lunch at the same cafe filmed in the Clint Eastwood movie "Bridges of Madison County".

Following lunch we visit the birthplace of John Wayne, which is filled with memorabilia from his movies.  Then on to tour the Salisbury House, a 42 room masion modled after the King's house in Salisbury, England. (CB, L)

 

Day 3:  This morning we our the Iowa State Capital with it's golden dome.  After indulging in a special lunch, we will take part in the interactive exhibits at the Living History Farms.  These exhibits  range fron the early Ioway indians throughthe Civil War. ( CB, L)

 

Day 4:  Today is Tulip Day!  Drive to Pella and watch the coustumed residents celebrate the Dutch heritage among millions of brightly tulips. We will visit the Hisrotical Village Complex and enjoy a tastey lunch, watch the parade and afternoon performanes.  This evening we will go to the Pella Opera House and watch the jazzy performance of the Freddie Gazzo Band. Day 5:  After breakfast we head for OKC with our heads full of wonderful pictures of tulips. (CB)
